These events are to protest the host country’s government’s lack of respect of human rights. To demonstrate the peoples’ opposition face of this shameful farce, we propose that artistic and cultural events be held wherever possible, throughout the duration of the opening ceremony in public places all over the world. We solicit volunteer event organisers, artists and all actors in public life to organize and take part in this international event. Everyone should publicize this event as much as possible through appropriate advertising mediums. This show of support demonstrates our active and constructive disagreement. With this movement, we do not want to point fingers at the participating athletes or at the Chinese people; they are not responsible for this situation! Rather, this action is directed at the Chinese government, the Olympic Committee, and partners and sponsors, who have been blinded by their financial interests at stake in the games. Let us be heedful to the fact that partners and other advertising companies that are sure to have a presence in the Games are thereby signing their tacit agreement to not respect human rights in China. They are the real accomplices who we need to boycott now, because they can still retract. This event should connect all people aware of the basic rights that each of us lays claim to. Those same rights should be applied to everyone. Please act and spread this message! Michel Baumann - Vice President IGFM section Switzerland List of all our partners (Updated weekly) |
